Ericeira Restaurants, Shaped by the Coast and the Town

A town shaped by the sea, and the places that feed it.

A Curated Guide to Ericeira Restaurants

Ericeira carries a feeling that’s hard to pin down at first. A working town shaped by the sea, but also somewhere people come to switch off for a while. There’s a nostalgic surf-town energy to it, boards outside, familiar streets, places that have stayed much the same. Ericeira restaurants follow that, a mix of long-standing spots and newer kitchens, all shaped by the coast and how the town actually lives.

Balagan Ericeira

Balagan sits just above Praia do Sul, close enough to the water that the day seems to carry through it. It moves easily from coffee to lunch to something later, without needing to define itself too much. The food leans Eastern Mediterranean, but like many of the newer Ericeira restaurants, it reflects the town as it feels now, relaxed, outward-looking, and easy to return to.

COSTA FRIA

COSTA FRIA looks straight out to the Atlantic, and everything about it lands right, the room, the energy, the food. It’s one of my favourite restaurants in Portugal, not just one of the Ericeira restaurants I’d recommend. There’s a confidence to it that doesn’t need to be pushed, just good cooking, strong flavours, and a setting that does the rest without trying.

La Popular

La Popular was started by a Spanish couple who ended up staying, and the place carries that feeling. It’s built around sharing plates, good wine, and a room that fills gradually as the evening goes on. Nothing feels forced. In Ericeira, it’s the kind of place that feels lived in, like it’s been there longer than it has.

Esplanada Furnas

Esplanada Furnas sits above the ocean, with a wide view that hasn’t changed much over the years. The menu stays close to what works, seafood, grilled fish, simple plates that suit the setting. It’s part of the older rhythm of the town, and of the Ericeira restaurants people keep coming back to without needing a reason.

Mar das latas

Mar das Latas is smaller, a little more focused, and leans more toward wine than most places nearby. The menu stays tight, simple dishes that work with what’s being poured. It’s the kind of place you end up in without planning to stay long, and then do. Among Ericeira restaurants, it brings a slightly different pace.

Restaurante Azenhas do Mar

About an hour up the coast, Restaurante Azenhas do Mar is one of those places you make time for. Set into the cliffs, looking straight out to the Atlantic, it feels slightly removed from everything else. The food, the view, the music, it all comes together without effort. If you’re heading north, it’s not one to miss.
