About

The Revel Stay is a guide to hotels with a sense of place, across seventeen destinations in Europe. It started in Amsterdam.

Behind it is a background in spatial design, years working in the travel industry, and many more trips of our own. So we look at scale, materials and light, and at whether a building belongs where it stands. A seven-room farmhouse near Monopoli. A narrow seventeenth-century house in Amsterdam. Some are expensive, many are not.

We like hotels that give something back to their street: local materials, staff from the neighbourhood, a bar the neighbours use, and a kitchen that cooks with what the region grows. That is why we write about where to eat as well as where to stay.

Fewer places, longer stays. Come home knowing the street, not just the room.
