Up a hill in Mouraria, O Velho Eurico is one of the harder reservations in Lisbon. Chef Zé Paulo Rocha took over a traditional tasca that was about to close and turned it into something worth booking weeks ahead. The chalkboard changes daily. The vinho verde arrives in stone bowls. Order the octopus lagareiro.
The two categories overlap more than they don’t. Cool hotels are chosen for a point of view, on design, on neighbourhood, on how the building shapes the stay. A pool hotel adds a physical reason to stay put, somewhere for the afternoon to land when the city has been walked and the evening hasn’t started yet.
